On October 6, 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released their revised final rules to both Stage 2 and Stage 3 measures. Most importantly, Stage 2 Meaningful Use attestation for 2015 is now a 90-day period rather than the initial 365-day requirement.
As a certified EHR developer and medical billing company we know how frustrated everyone has been with the original set of rules. The new revisions have simplified requirements and removed reporting redundancies in Stage 2 measures, for example: the dreaded patient engagement measure is now a “yes-no” response rather than the unpopular 5% patient response requirement.
So bottom line, you still have time to avoid penalties in 2017 and with the new revised requirements it is a realistic possibility. The final rules are set to be published October 16, 2015.
