The NFL Tackles EHRs

The 32 teams that make up the National Football League (NFL) will now run on an electronic health record system to better care for game-related injuries and better diagnose the all-too-common concussions.

With teams changing players throughout the season and games played in all different locations, the EHR system will coordinate care by streamlining and recording medical records. Allowing records to be accessed anywhere.

“We are always looking for innovative ways to enhance healthcare within the organization. Electronic records are the next logical step,” said Tony Yates, MD, president of the NFL Physicians Society.

The EHR system will do just that, bringing the system league-wide, for anytime, anywhere access. This will help diagnose injuries during practice and game-day situations.

One integration specifically for the NFL will be a play-by-play direct video feed. This will allow player injuries to be viewed as they happen – ultimately allowing better treatment options. This is offered right at the side line, allowing staff to instantly evaluate the mechanism of the player’s injury.

The EHR system will, of course, feature the usual connection to labs, radiology, and sharing of records between systems – all helping better assist the players’ injuries.

The NFL sees the importance of electronic health records. We can show you how easy it is for your practice.
